'Solving' a pedigree requires a number of higher-order problem solving skills. Identifying which facts are most easily ascertained and looking for key points to attack the problem amongst them. While you can take the approach of starting at a random position and filling in everything you can, you'll be better off thinking about what is knowable and where (if anywhere) a given pedigree may contradict a given model.
